Meadowlark 03:20
MEADOWLARK Bring on the storm, Summer Bring on the storm First kiss of rain While the day is still warm Scent of the desert Arrives on the breeze Smelling of Earth And of Juniper trees Long days over the meadows Long days over the meadows So sing, Meadowlark sing So sing, Meadowlark sing Splashes of colour Where wildflowers bloom Zinnia golden And chicory blue Midsummer nights That are over so soon Morning that stretches to Late afternoon Long days over the meadows Long days over the meadows So sing, Meadowlark sing So sing, Meadowlark sing

AN INVITATION TO THE MUSES Daughters born of the dark Pool of memory, and the spark That ignites what will be If you’re willing, come to me Let me drink your divine Inspiration, Muses nine Table’s laid, come and dine I have fruit and I have wine Sing to me that I may sing to you Come as beauty, come as art Fill the vessel of my heart Plant a seed that I start Weave your Magic, play your part Ancient wisdom, tales told Make the new from what was old Bring the past into the now If you’re willing, show me how Sing to me that I may sing to you Beauty flow from my hand Like sacred rivers through the land Weave your Magic, set me free If you’re willing, come to me If you’re willing, come to me

First Light 02:49
FIRST LIGHT Dawn settles over the horizon Lifting the veil of the night First light Darkness dissolving into colour Shadow defining into form And morning breaks Over the plains Over the plains Over the plains Westward that mountains painted violet Imperfect mirror of the sky In high saturation Of colors bold, the East is blazing In pink and gold, the day erasing The night Rising in beams behind the mesa Shimmer of iridescent glow Then flow sunlight Then flow sunlight In brilliant rays the day begun With golden reach of rising Sun
4.
Rattlesnake 03:35
RATTLESNAKE Just when I didn’t know which road to take Right on my path I saw the rattlesnake Telling me now Slow it right down Don’t make the same mistake Or nothing at all will change No use in trying to go my usual way Save that adventure for another day Look to the ground Turn it around Heed what the omens say Or nothing at all will change Suddenly so wide awake Nothing exists Only the snake Coiled tight and ready to strike Oh, but I’m not afraid I know I’m alright (Will I dream of you tonight) Just when I didn’t know which way to go Rattlesnake told me what I need to know Look to the ground Turn it around Take it a little slow Or nothing at all will change

EARTH UNDER AUTUMN Never a moment take for granted Now that the golden light has landed On the Earth under Autumn Now that the leaves are falling down Once ‘round the Sun, a new year older Feeling the Samhain nights grow colder As I turn towards Winter I can begin to feel it now Trying to navigate changes While Nature keeps Turning my pages Thinking of friends who’ve gone before me Slipped through the veil, I can’t ignore That I am blessed to be breathing Although my heart is grieving so Fleeting this life, but full of wonder Seizing each day, now I’ve begun to See the Earth under Autumn Now that the leaves are falling down Down, down, down, down Never a moment take for granted Now that the golden light has landed On the Earth under Autumn Now that the leaves are falling down
6.
BUTTERFLY’S WING We are both creatures of the sky And animals A cord connecting to Mother Earth A mind reflecting the Universe We’re told a thousand different lies Of separation That Nature is outside, but not within That somehow we’re immune To the changes we bring But Nature is both spirit and skin A balance fine as a butterfly’s wing Break through the labyrinth of lies And realize That we’re not the pinnacle of Life The grand design That we’re not the winners of the prize Of dominion over Time now to open up our eyes And reawaken A storm is on the rise, it’s time to see We must listen to the cries Of the Earth, our mother For Nature is both spirit and skin A balance fine as a butterfly’s wing

Eve 02:56
9.
WHATEVER IS BIG, WHATEVER IS SMALL Here, where my eyes can witness it all Whatever is big, whatever is small Here, where my mind can witness the dawn And setting of Sun, and incoming storm The wandering stars that circle the skies To see where they fall To mark where they rise Here, where the Earth is written in stone In mountain and plain, in animal bone Here, where my eyes are open to know A feather that falls, a print in the snow A spiral of flower, a pillar of tree All equal in power All sacred to me Here, where the land is painted in light Refracted in colour, condensed into white Here, where the stars are turning the night Extending beyond the limits of sight The limits of sight, too tiny to see Or far in the distance, all sacred to me I open my eyes to witness it all Whatever is big, whatever is small
10.
Diamonds 03:02
DIAMONDS Falling snow, falling snow Come and cover everything below All the loss and confusion With your lovely blanket of illusion Smooth the ridge, fill the hollow Cover all my emptiness and sorrow With your soft Winter whiteness Turn my darkest shadows into brightness Tiny snowflakes come drifting Lighten all the loads that I’ve been lifting With your bright crystal silence Turn my frozen teardrops into diamonds Weight the trees, bend the branches Hide my broken dreams and chances Keep my footprints all frozen On the paths I never should have chosen Bury obstacles underneath Your lovely Winter world of wonder Under cold blanket sleeping All the hidden troubles I’ve been keeping Falling snow, falling snow Come and cover everything below With your bright crystal silence Turn my frozen teardrops into diamonds
11.
Big Sky 04:48
BIG SKY Big sky, curve down Paint colour, breathe light Big sky, set Sun Call darkness, sing night Big sky, rise Moon Dance planets, spin stars Big sky, form cloud Roll thunder, fall rain Big sky, build storm Howl hurricane, wind wail Big sky, flash bright Strike lightening, white fire Big sky, stretch tight Blue canvas, bright day Big sky, fly hawk Fly eagle, fly crane Big sky, beat time Turn seasons, turn space Big sky Lead on Lead over Horizon
12.
LONGEST NIGHTS Sunlight shines, but nowhere near Longest nights of the year Diving into quiet dreams Rest your head as moonlight streams Far away, far away Sheltered from the world outside Fell asleep by fireside Let the wind blow Let the clouds grow Let the storm go by Time to open quiet eyes Sunlight shines from Eastern skies Dawn

about

Visionary Songstress Wendy Rule's latest album is a gorgeous collection of folk-driven songs that celebrate the Nature and Magic of Meadowlark, her New Mexico home.

The songs are brought to life with the help of Wendy's son Reuben Bloxham (of renowned Melbourne band RVG) and her friends Carisa and Andrew (of L.A based Darkwave band Night Tongue), creating lush arrangements that enhance Wendy's uniquely beautiful vocals and tender songwriting.

From Wendy:
"Connection with Nature is at the core of my spiritual practice, and, after the epic mythic journey of my last double-album, Persephone, I felt that I needed to emerge from the Underworld, come up for air, and embrace all the powerful Magic of my immediate environment. Most of the songs on Meadowlark began when I was on one of my daily hikes in the nearby wilderness, or when I was sitting on my porch with my guitar and watching the sky. It's essentially a set of folk songs that explore my emotional, creative, and spiritual connection with Nature."
